Our family is the lucky and grateful recipient of a custom weighted Molly Bear, in memory of our beloved stillborn daughter, Clara Edith. This gift was made possible by the Molly Bears team of volunteers and generous donations from the June Bugs due date group that my wife joined during her pregnancy.

To “pay it forward”. my wife and I will be donating 60% of all artwork sales between now and July 1, 2013, to Molly Bears. Please shop, share, and spread the love far and wide!

For Valentine's Day this year, our girls asked me if I would draw up some little cards for them to give their friends.

I did this project with them last year, and it was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. We didn't have access to a scanner last year, so we were only able to take a snapshot of the finished V-Day cards. It's a shame, because the cards were a huge hit with the girls' friends.

This year, I knew I wouldn't have the kind of time to devote to the project, so I suggested drawing just a few Valentine's cards and scanning/printing the rest. Kind of their own personal "Valentine's Card Kit", courtesy of me. I drew the artwork, with much creative input from the tweens, and Heather did the graphic design work to make them into printables, which we are now going to share with the Internet.

We've got three designs for you today, hosted over on my wife's blog, The Destiny Manifest. There will be a few more design going up tomorrow (and possibly the next day, just depends on where my inspiration takes me with this project).

Please feel free to download any or all of the Valentine's cards for your personal (non-commercial) use. I would suggest that you cut them out on cardstock paper, which you can then cut apart for gifting to family, friends, and classmates. The cardstock paper will ensure that they are durable enough for handling by the many kids who will undoubtedly want to look at your kid's super cool Valentine's cards!

Enjoy!
This past Thanksgiving, I was fortunate to be offered a new project with a wonderful purpose. I was given the honor of designing a patch for the Boy Scouts. Lets hope I can find some great word of mouth from this, as well! Oh how I dream of the day when I can draw rather than push a broom at work every day!

We are hosting this giveaway from midnight on Monday, December 10 through midnight on Tuesday, December 18. We will be selecting two winners at random -- one winner will receive a custom handmade pair of children's leather shoes (made by Heather) and the second winner will receive a high quality print of my original "Making a Friend" artwork.

The first winner in this giveaway will receive a custom pair of Heather's handmade Bunny Shoes for babies and children. Bunny Shoes (formerly known as the uber-popular Moss Feet Shoes) are hand-sewn from buttery soft suede leather lined with soft fleece. The elastic in the ankles is perfectly sized to keep the shoes on little feet without leaving red marks. Sizes are available from preemie (3.75" length) through 2-3 years (6.25" length). Many colors available in both suede leather and fleece! Bunny Shoes are machine washable and super comfortable!

The second giveaway winner will receive a high quality 8x10" print of one of my favorite illustrations, "Making a Friend". The original winter art drawing was inspired by a snowfall in our neighborhood. "Making A Friend" features a young child building a snowman in the yard. Bundled up in warm winter clothes, the child is hard at work building a friendly snowman, complete with charcoal buttons, a carrot nose and a black top hat with ribbon and holly leaves. This print is perfect for framing and will make a beautiful addition to your holiday decorations (or an awesome Christmas present for someone you love)!
I always enjoy throwing some lines onto paper for that most chilling of holidays - Halloween!
There is currently a zombie hoard crawling over the tips of my oil pastels, and you can expect even more thrilling art in the coming weeks!
Also, I'm proud to announce that my wife is restarting her once-famed baby shoes business. Don't miss visiting her blog to see what new creations she's coming up with, if you can spare the time in between trick or treating and setting up the jack o'lantern!
My wife does a much better job of keeping things updated over on her blog, which is definitely worth your time to check out.

It would take much more time than I have to cover the entire last year in one blog post, so I'll abbreviate.

We spent twelve and a half of those months technically homeless, living with friends & family in their homes, trying to get back on our own feet.

We moved to Fort Worth, Texas for the hottest part of the summer of 2011 and then back to South Carolina just before Christmas, because it was close to impossible to get necessary medical care for our oldest daughter there.

We got pregnant in September 2011, right after we moved to Texas and right about the time we decided we weren't going to try for a baby anymore.

I did manual labor in Texas, a short term at an industrial company right after we moved back to SC, several months as a gas station attendant and finally, landed a wonderful, steady, and full-time job working with the school district. I work in the same school that our oldest just started attending, which has made for a really nice transition into middle school for her.

I actually just got a promotion, so I will be working in both schools that our girls attend, as well as a couple of others.

My twelve-year-old Saturn coupe stopped running, after limping along like a dog with a broken leg. We borrowed a vehicle for a short time and were able to take out a loan for a new-to-us PT Cruiser last month. It's beautiful, we have plenty of room now (which we definitely did not before) and it runs like a dream.

We were able to move into our own apartment last week, and we could not be happier and more appreciative of having our own space than we are right now. Our friends and family were so generous to allow us to stay with them for so long, and we will forever be grateful to them, but there is so much to be said for being in our own place again. It's a 2-bedroom, so twice as much room as we had in our old basement apartment.

Sadly, our beautiful baby girl Clara was born still on July 1, 2012. We were 42 weeks and 3 days pregnant, so eager to meet our new little one. It was unexpected... we found out only an hour before she was born. It has been the most awful thing that either Heather or I has ever been through, and in spite of our recent turn of luck financially, we walk through each day with a heavy sadness in our hearts. Heather wrote out Clara's story on her blog, and she said it better than I ever could.

As far as drawing goes, I've drawn very little in the past year. I drew one fairy in Texas... and then started a portrait of what I thought our baby girl would look like in May. It turns out that my drawing was almost spot on... it could have been drawn from a photograph of Clara, rather than months before she was born. I'll finish it one day soon and post it here. Now that we're in our own place, I intend to start drawing again. I miss the creative release and expression. I'm a happier man when I'm drawing, putting graphite to paper and giving a face to my viewpoint.

It's been one long year... and I'm hoping that the next one brings us peace, prosperity and a lot less sadness.

If you're still following my blog, I thank you kindly. I'll have more drawings to share, very soon I hope.
Officially, I'm on a week-long layoff, but I called and spoke with a representative at the temp agency that I work through, and she said that they had gotten no notice that the company was going to be calling anyone back "for at least another week".

We are not in a financial position to get along without one paycheck, and we certainly cannot afford to go without more than one. I am paid weekly, and my monthly income barely covers our very basic bills, along with gas to get to/from work (and school, when school is in session) and groceries. We have very minimal bills, and do not spend money on any extras, and still things are always at the red line, budget-wise.

Heather and I sat down with our budget today, and after paying one bill and part of our rent, there was one dollar left for gas/groceries. She receives child support every two weeks, but it is always late and is not reliable. We are in a pinch, most definitely. I am applying everywhere that will accept my resume or application, just on the chance that my company does not call back, this week or ever, but that doesn't solve our immediate need for groceries and rent.

I am running a sale on art prints, starting today! You can find 10 of my most popular works of art, available for purchase as a 4 x 6", 5 x 7 " or 8 x 10" print. Prints are on high quality archive paper with a Lustre finish, which offers a perfect balance between Glossy and Matte and will last up to 200 years without fading. The colors achieved are very nearly as bright as the original artwork.

If you have visited my gallery and your favorite piece of my artwork is not listed on the sale page, send me an email at artistwebb@gmail.com and I will honor the sale price on any piece of my artwork!

Please forward the prints sale page on to anyone and everyone that you think might be interested. Tweet it, facebook it... it will mean so much to me. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support!
I've mentioned before that both my wife and I love the story of Little Red Riding Hood. I decided that, to start off my Fairy Tale series, I would draw my take on this classic story.

My drawing, "Shortcut", features the beautiful & delectable Little Red, walking along the forest path in the moonlight, on her way to her Grandma's house.

Little does she know that a Big Bad Wolf is dogging her footsteps, keeping an eye on her goodies, waiting for the opportune time to make his move.
I've started a new full time job & it involves a lot of (much appreciated) overtime. I worked 66 hours last week and this new week looks to be similar. This is excellent for the budget & family, but not so excellent for the artwork.

In the past few weeks, I've been working on a fairy tale series, based on the original Grimm Fairy Tales, not the Disney versions. I have completed four pieces thus far and have another on the easel. The first four went very smoothly, each one taking around 3-5 days from start to finish. The latest drawing, my take on "Beauty & the Beast", has been in progress for over a week already... like I said, much less time to draw nowadays.

I will blog about the new drawings over the next couple of days. They've gotten a lot of great attention over on Deviant Art and it makes me feel good to see each new "favorite" on my drawings.

I'm around... hoping to catch up my fellow bloggers as time permits this week. Thank you all for your support!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05974340126005768934noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453239271827085961.post-48036772858563599962011-02-17T15:00:00.003-05:002011-02-17T19:53:57.092-05:00Custom & Commissioned Artwork Current Status: Open
My favorite subject matter is the human form & character concepts. I love the pin-up style but am equally skilled at portraits & still life drawings. I can draw furries, animals & pets. Sci-fi and fantasy are my strong points: mermaids, fairies, elves, dragons... space ships, robots & aliens. I will do nude/erotic, but I must feel confident that you are 18+.

What I CAN'T/WON'T Do...
I won't do anime, manga, or hentai. I'd rather steer clear of R/X-rated violence & gore. I won't do racially, sexually or otherwise overtly offensive artwork. I don't do abstract.

Feel free to ask for whatever you want, but don't be surprised or offended if I turn down a concept. There's just some things I'd prefer to not have my name on.

I still really love the concept and plan to revisit the piece next fall/winter.
Thank you so much! :)

By accepting these awards, I agree to share 7 things about myself... so here goes!

1. I am a Sagitarius, which means I am optimistic, good-humored, honest and philosophical.
2. My favorite thing to draw is the female form.
3. I currently optimize the stereotype of the "starving artist".
4. I believe I can change red lights to green with my mind. ;)
5. My first published artwork appeared in the local paper when I was 12 years old. I won first prize in a drawing contest and received a check for $5.
6. I am a recovering drug addict. I've been clean for 19 months and I find the strength to stay that way in my family.
7. I gave a pretty girl a hand-drawn Valentine's card in 1995. My wife still has it.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05974340126005768934noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453239271827085961.post-63838023549169090002011-01-19T08:00:00.000-05:002011-01-19T08:00:00.452-05:00A Winter's Day

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05974340126005768934noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453239271827085961.post-7190225210011619362011-01-16T08:00:00.000-05:002011-01-16T08:00:00.362-05:00Ellie Cat

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05974340126005768934noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2453239271827085961.post-56613906947474192612011-01-15T08:00:00.006-05:002011-01-15T08:00:00.370-05:00Little Red - Work in Progress

I'm working on a new drawing, my own adaptation of the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. I did a quick sketch (to the right) before starting the larger drawing (below). I did the initial drawing in graphite and pencil, and the color work is oil pastels and colored pencil. I'm made great progress since these pictures were taken a couple days ago... but wanted to share my work in progress.

I'm really happy with it so far... maybe the tiniest bit tired of drawing individual bark on trees, but the end result will definitely be worth it. Look for the finished artwork in my Etsy shop, as well as here on the blog, within the next few days! :)
While clicking around on Deviant Art the other evening, I happened across a comic artist by the name of J. Scott Campbell. His work is just astounding, his women sexy without being trashy... just the way I strive to draw my fairies, mermaids and other ladies.

J. Scott is a comic book artist and creator who has worked in the field of comics for over a decade. He has both created and co-created such books as the long-time fan favorite 'GEN 13', the mega hit 'Danger Girl' and the highly innovative 'Wildsiderz'.

Campbell has created a line of fantasy fairytale pin-up girls... beautiful sexy ladies in classic story book settings. He has everything from Sleeping Beauty to Snow White, the Princess & the Pea and Little Miss Muffet... and the villains too: the Wicked Witch of the West, Maleficent and the Evil Queen. You can see these lovely ladies in the 2011 "Fairytale Fantasies" calendar.

Campbell's Deviant Art page showcases a large amount of his Marvel & DC comics artwork, of which I am a huge fan. I'm loving Mary Jane, Witchblade, Poison Ivy, Black Widow and the Baroness!

One day I hope to own the awesome sketchbooks available in Campbell's online store, namely "Blue Beauties", "Code Orange" and "Monster Green". If those weren't enough, there is also a "Faces" sketchbook, a "Shades of Gray" (and "More Gray Area") sketchbook and a "Tall" sketchbook. I test printed today and it is just perfect! This beautiful twelve month calendar features a different original piece of artwork on each month. The calendar, which includes a front and back cover, is tied together with a coordinating ribbon and looks so nice hanging by the desk.

The artwork on each month is as follows:

January ~ Snowflake Girl
February ~ Making A Friend
March ~ Celeste
April ~ Luna Moth
May ~ Mermommy
June ~ Butterfly Stone
July ~ Bathing Beauty
August ~ Brown Eyed Susan
September ~ The Green Fairy
October ~ Aosoth
November ~ Aefwine
December ~ Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

I use only archival inks on premium archival paper. My wife Heather and I cut, fold, score, assemble, design and package each piece by hand in our home. The calendar is 5.5 x 8.5 inches (14 cm x 21.5 cm), a nice compact size that is still large enough to write important dates on.

After the month is over, you can even trim off the calendar portion and you will have a reproduction image to display. Perfect for your desk, bulletin board or your refrigerator!
